Winter is officially here. If you haven’t done so already, it’s important to winterize your vehicle so that it’s ready to tackle the cold weather and snow that looms ahead. Prepare your car for winter with these tips from 1-800-Radiator and A/C Franchises.
Monitor Your Tires
While you should monitor the condition and pressure of your tires year round, it’s especially important to do so during the cold season. Driving on worn tires and low air pressure reduces your traction, making driving very dangerous on wet and icy roads. Inspect the tire treads, and look for abrasions and signs of uneven wearing. Replace any worn or damaged tires.
Additionally, make sure your tires are inflated to the proper level, which can be found in the owner’s manual. Check the tire pressure at least once a month. If your area gets a lot of snow, install snow tires for better traction and enhanced safety.
Replace Windshield Wipers and Fluid
Damaged windshield wipers hinder your visibility. Make sure your windshield wipers are working properly and are in good condition. If the wipers are making odd noises and/or leaving streaks, then it’s time for a replacement. Also keep your windshield wiper fluid properly filled. Leave an extra bottle of anti-freeze in your vehicle, just in case you get caught in a storm and need to refill.
Keep Your Gas Tank At Least Half Full
Don’t let your gas tank fall below the halfway point. A full tank will help you avoid gas line freeze ups, as well as help keep your car running in the event that you get stranded.
Follow Routine Maintenance
Your car needs regular maintenance and repairs year round. Follow the maintenance schedule and instructions provided in the owner’s manual to keep your vehicle operating correctly and efficiently. If you’re inexperienced with cars, then take your vehicle to the mechanic regularly to have it serviced and repaired.
